Wintek sees mild handset panel market in 3Q08
Small- to medium-size panel supplier Wintek estimates that demand from the handset market will still see a seasonal upturn in the third quarter, but the momentum of growth will be milder than that in the past.
The maker said orders for some handset-use panel segments are growing, but the market is not seeing a blanket growth for all handset applications.
Wintek said it remains difficult to predict the market in the fourth quarter, as brand-name handset vendors will continue to feel the strong impact of the weakened global economy. In China, the long National Day holiday in October may stimulate demand in the handset market, Wintek remarked.
Handset panels account for almost 80% of Wintek's revenues, with shipments going chiefly to international handset vendors.
