HTC Dream features LCD panel from Sharp and touch solutions from Synaptics and TPK
High Tech Computer (HTC) builds its newly unveiled HTC Dream, or known as T-Mobile G1 in the US, using LCD panels from Sharp and capacitive touch screen solutions from Synaptics, according to industry sources.
The process of attaching Synaptics' touch panels to Sharp's LCD panels are handled by Taiwan-based TPK Touch solutions, which also does the same job for the iPhone 3G-use displays, the source said, adding that Wintek supplies the touch panels for the Apple handsets.
The sources commented that TPK was chosen for the HTC Dream because of its experience in handling the Apple touch panels.
The sources estimated that the production cost of HTC Dream touch panel modules is likely to be slightly lower than the modules for the iPhone.
