Huawei OptiX DWDM Completes Interoperable Testing with IBM GDPS/STP System
[SHENZHEN - China, 25 Sept 2008] Huawei Technologies Co Ltd ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that its OptiX DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexer) products suite has successfully completed interoperability testing and qualification for IBM GDPS (Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex) and STP (Server Time Protocol) system environments.
Huawei OptiX products are now certified to extend the reach of data centers running GDPS/STP applications by up to 200 kilometers with IBM System z mainframes1, delivering the power and reliability required in effective business continuity programs for mission-critical applications 365 days a year. In short, Huawei products are now certified for client use in GDPS environments to "split" transaction workloads across different sites or strategically plan a cascaded disaster recovery process to avoid business disruption.
GDPS is one of most advanced computing environments that provides a set of disaster recovery and continuous availability solutions ideal for complex multi-site networks. To reduce any impairment resulting from planned and unplanned outages, many large enterprises are now implementing system and storage redundancy with high availability, business assurance, and disaster recovery capabilities.
"Large enterprises have to be able to provide seamless services to their customers around the clock, The qualification from IBM demonstrates OptiX DWDM products are able to meet the highest requirements of mission critical applications across the longest data replication distance in the industry," said Christian Chua, president of Huawei's Transport Network Product Line.
The Huawei OptiX DWDM series supports both traditional ETR (External Time Reference) CLO (Control Link Oscillator) and the latest STP systems, reducing the number of wavelengths required and extending the transmission distance. These technical features allow enterprises to further simplify their network structure and lower operating costs.
Huawei OptiX DWDM series products support all typical storage protocols interfaces including ESCON, GbE, ISC-3 (STP), ETR/CLO and FC/FICON 1G/2G/4G. Compared with traditional systems where one wavelength is occupied by one channel of ISC (Inter-System Channel) service, Huawei' s OptiX DWDM solution enables one wavelength to transport up to eight channels of ISC services or eight channels of intermixed services including ISC and FC/FICON/GbE services based on leading TDM (Time-Division Multiplexing) technologies. This also reduces the use of wavelengths and therefore reduces investment costs.
ln recent years, Huawei's WDM products have been officially listed in the certificate matrix of most global leading storage networking products and solutions providers such as Brocade, EMC, HP, McDATA, and SUN. Huawei' s WDM Products have been successfully deployed as a data and SAN transport platform for global enterprises in the finance and telecommunication industries.
