Motorola Shows WiMAX in Action Delivering Personal Media Experiences at WiMAX World 2008

Motorola features live demonstrations of ecosystem devices and tailors WiMAX experiences for home and on the go for Millennials, road warriors and home enhancers

CHICAGO – WIMAX World 2008 – 30 September 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a leading provider of mobile WiMAX equipment and deployed commercial networks worldwide, will unveil new products and demonstrate how WiMAX can accelerate the delivery of personal media experiences during WiMAX World 2008, Sept. 30 - Oct. 2, in Chicago. Motorola is in stand #601 at McCormick Place.

Motorola’s demonstrations will address solutions for Millennials, who need to be in touch and live via social networks; road warriors, for whom productivity on the go is a must; and homelife enhancers, the busy set of parents, retired professionals and others who want technology to improve their lives.

Since last year’s show, when Motorola successfully demonstrated the world’s first mobile WiMAX handoffs during a cruise on the Chicago River, Motorola has become one of the first companies to achieve WiMAX Forum® certification of its WiMAX infrastructure – the WAP 25400 that was certified in June. Motorola has introduced a diverse portfolio of customer premise equipment (CPE) and network infrastructure and has nearly doubled its number of contracts, now at 22, for commercial WiMAX networks globally. The company is a leader in shipments of mobile WiMAX network infrastructure and CPE according to several analyst reports.

“Motorola recognized early on the potential for WiMAX to meet the needs of operators in emerging markets, greenfield deployments and to provide cost-effective, high-speed mobile broadband access,” said Darren McQueen, vice president, wireless broadband access technologies, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “We’ve helped customers around the world successfully launch commercial WiMAX service, win market share and are seeing new applications and opportunities for WiMAX to accelerate the delivery of personal media experiences.”

Motorola also has vastly expanded the ecosystem of CPE, devices and chipsets from a variety of manufacturers that are compatible with or used in its WiMAX products. This ecosystem was showcased by Motorola during live WiMAX demonstrations with a host of applications and services at several major trade shows around the world, including CES and CTIA in the U.S. and WiMAX Forum events in Amsterdam and Singapore, and will be a part of the Motorola booth at WiMAX World.

Motorola also has taken further steps in boosting the global WiMAX ecosystem by launching its WiMAX interoperability testing program with locations in Arlington Heights, Ill., and Taiwan. At these two facilities, Motorola customers can validate that a device is compatible with their WiMAX network infrastructure and receive advice from Motorola as to which customer premises products and mobile devices they should consider.
