Taiwan market: Samsung to start marketing Omnia i908 this month
Samsung Electronics will start marketing its Omnia i908 handsets in the Taiwan market in cooperation with Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) at the end of this month, according to Jae Hyun Ryu, director, mobile communications unit, Samsung Taiwan.
Samsung plans to spend over NT$100 million (US$3.13 million) in marketing to promote the sales of Omnia i908, with an aim to sell up to 30,000 units of the handset before the end of this year, Ryu stated.
In addition, Samsung also plans to launch its 8-megapixel innov8 i8510 handsets in Taiwan in the fourth quarter of this year, Ryu added,
Sales of smartphones currently account for 7-8% of Taiwan's total handset market, with the ratio likely to top 10% by year end in terms of unit sales, Ryu said, noting that the portion of smartphones will account for 20% in terms of sales value.
