Compal Communications 2008 handset shipment goal unattainable
Compal Communications will be unable to attain its goal to ship 48 million handsets in 2008 even though the company has projected handset shipments will grow 30% sequentially in the fourth quarter of this year.
Compal shipped 9.5 million handsets in the third quarter, bringing total shipments for the first three quarters of the year to 29.6 million units, accounting for 61.7% of the 48 million units projected for 2008, according to company sources.
If the 30% sequential growth projection is realized in the fourth quarter, Compal's fourth-quarter handset shipments will reach 12.35 million which would bring total shipments for all of 2008 to only 41.95 million units.
In other news, Compal has announced revenues of NT$3.64 billion (US$113 million) for September, up 29.5% sequentially but down 17% on year. For the first nine months of the year, revenues were NT$26.05 billion, a decline of 32% from a year earlier.
