Nokia Siemens Networks Selected to Create a Juniper Networks High-Performance Infrastructure to Supply Advanced Ethernet Backbone for VOO
Belgian Telecoms Operator Deploys Service-Enabling Network Infrastructure to Accelerate the Delivery of Revenue-Generating Multiplay Applications
Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that VOO, a leading network operator in Belgium, has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to supply and support the Juniper Networks MX-series Ethernet Services Routers and EX-series Ethernet switches to create a high-performance, service-enabled network infrastructure. The new network will enable VOO to deliver fast, reliable and customizable multiplay services—including video-on-demand—to more than 1.2 million homes, providing competitive differentiation and driving profitability by delivering an exceptional customer experience.
“When it became clear our existing network would be difficult scale to meet future requirements, we needed a strategic deployment partner and world class vendor to create and deploy our new service-enabling network backbone,” said Jean-Michel Adant, CTO at VOO. “We selected Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper for this key project because they are able to deliver a flexible, high-performance and cost-effective end-to-end solution that enables us to extract more value from our network by reducing operational costs and accelerating service model innovation.”
Nokia Siemens Networks’ worldwide capability in deploying operator infrastructure equipment and support services helps VOO create an IP network that will scale to meet the needs to their subscribers. At the same time, Nokia Siemens Networks’ extensive service capabilities ensure unsurpassed carrier class reliability to VOO.
VOO’s IP backbone consists of MX960 Ethernet Services Routers delivering up to 960 Gbps of switching and routing capacity. It offers support for high-performance multicast, unmatched scalability, price-performance improvements and stability in the core network for service providers delivering multiplay services to subscribers.
The Juniper Networks EX 4200 series Ethernet switches were selected by VOO for their high throughput, interoperability and low energy consumption. Because the EX is based on JUNOS® software, the industry’s only network operating system software using a single source code, VOO was able to deploy a common high performance network infrastructure while making significant operational savings.
“Our global partnership with Juniper is a key pillar in our IP network strategy and we are delighted that VOO has recognized the value that our combined strengths can deliver,” said Hans Juergen Bill, the head of West South Europe region for Nokia Siemens Networks. “Getting ahead and creating an edge in the triple play market is extremely challenging and depends largely on a service provider’s ability to be agile and flexible through its network model and service creation layer.”
Nokia Siemens Networks will supply and support the Juniper Networks MX & EX platforms in the VOO network and its collective experience, expertise and presence will enable VOO to minimize its operational expenditure whilst creating an environment which will increase flexibility in service delivery and allow rapid service creation to maximize the potential for early revenue.
“Just as VOO is rolling out its new multiplay offering, many innovative service providers are looking to monetize their networks by rapidly and cost-effectively introducing new revenue-generating services,” said Gert-Jan Schenk, senior vice president of operations, EMEA, Juniper Networks. “The performance, flexibility and cost-effectiveness of the JUNOS-based Juniper solution coupled with the expertise of Nokia Siemens Networks rapidly foster service model innovation and lowers network operating costs—which enables VOO to truly monetize its network.”
