Smuggled G1 Phones Going For RMB 3,999 In Beijing
U.S.-ordered G1 handsets have been pouring into China illegally since October 26, and are currently selling for about RMB 3,999 in Beijing's Zhongguancun, reports DoNews citing sources. The Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android-based phones can be unlocked for an additional RMB 500 to allow Chinese consumers to use them outside of T-Mobile's network, said the report. Costs are expected to keep G1 prices high in the short term despite a relatively large supply of the phones, said some unauthorized product sellers.
