"We were ready for the worst"

The statement that UIQ would be phased out was at a staff meeting on Thursday morning. The night before, the Board had decided that all the staff in the IT firm would be notified of the termination.

One of the shareholders, Sony Ericsson, remain and are now funding UIQ month by month. No deadline is set, but it is a limited period. In the meantime, the municipality is working, the employment and a number of local authorities to help the employees find new jobs.

UIQ: to provide staff meeting with mixed feelings.
- It feels wrong to say that something positive is a day that this, but many had probably feared an even worse message: that the company would be closed immediately.

- Now we know, however, that Sony Ericsson takes its responsibilities and show appreciation for what we have done, "said Johan Sandberg.
Sandberg is employed CEO and is now in the same situation as many of their employees. He has bought houses, have family and has entrenched itself in Mardan. He does not want to move from here.

It was Sony Ericsson and Motorola's decision to stop using the software for mobile phones UIQ developed that became the death knell for the company. The basis for its existence was suddenly gone.
Parallel to that the employees are now looking for new jobs to UIQ's management to examine whether there are any buyers for the company. Already in June which was 200 of the then 375 employees of termination. A lot of them have already found new jobs, but those who are left since the previous forecast now receive a further six months before the dismissals take effect.
And in the meantime remains Sony Ericsson for salaries. The other partner, Motorola will not participate.
- Thanks to the time we get to help and support each other and each one can calmly think about their own future, "said Johan Sandberg.
UIQ was previously a success story and the flagship of the Melton business. Johan Sandberg believe the company's liquidation after all, can lead to something good for the municipality.
- Although UIQ no longer has a future in its current form, I am sure that some of our employees will start their own businesses. And it may very well be in Ronneby, "said Johan Sandberg.
