Customers of Bulgaria’s BTC Group to enjoy converged services with next generation networks

vivatel chooses Nokia Siemens Networks’ solution to become Bulgaria’s first operator offering IMS

BTC Group, Bulgaria’s leading fixed and mobile communications group, will enhance the services offered to its subscribers by becoming the first operator in the country to provide Internet Protocol-based multimedia and voice experience.

Nokia Siemens Networks is providing vivatel, BTC Group’s mobile operator with its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) platform and mobile Voice over IP application server (NVS) for advanced and cost-effective convergent services.

With the Nokia Siemens Networks customer-optimized end-to-end solution, vivatel subscribers will enjoy a whole range of all-IP convergent services including mobile, fixed-line and Internet telephony services (voice, data and multimedia) with a single phone number, as well as a broadband Internet access and range of video applications, presence, interactive gaming or conference facilities.

“Our company has repeatedly proved its leadership in providing state-of-the-art services and the entry into convergent IMS-based services is a natural thing. The solution from Nokia Siemens Networks will help us consolidate our leadership and strengthen our position to counteract cheap VoIP services, adding rich media communications on top of it,” said Alexander Dimitrov, Chief Commercial Officer of BTC Group.

IP Multimedia subsystem is a part of the next-generation core network, which allows operators to fully embrace the Internet by delivering services over all types of access, with flexible charging and seamless mobility. It also takes telecommunications to the next level by bringing high-quality dynamic multimedia applications (interactive gaming, video sharing, video conferencing etc.) to person-to-person communications.

Under the contract, vivatel also will be equipped with the mobile softswitch-based Nokia Siemens Networks VoIP Server and the Communication Suite, a rich call application for PCs that interoperates with mobile devices, for cost-effective VoIP telephone services. In addition, the Nokia Siemens Networks also will provide network and service management, including profile management for provisioning new, converged services.

In anticipation of the future growth of peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic resulting from new services, Nokia Siemens Networks also will supply data traffic control with its innovative Flexi ISN solution, a flexible packet-core platform that can be used to manage bandwidth allocation for different applications, subscription and access types and to ensure fair use of networks resources, and quality and availability of services.

Nokia Siemens Networks also will provide implementation and integration services.

“This is an extremely exciting and important deal for Nokia Siemens Networks in Bulgaria and globally, as it once more shows our leadership in the field of convergent solutions, and underlines the trust our customers have in our ability to provide new revenue-generating solutions for them,“ states Dietmar Appeltauer, Head of Central East Europe at Nokia Siemens Networks.

The VoIP Server is a software-based feature in Nokia Siemens Networks Mobile Softswitch (MSS) allowing operators to extend their mobile communication services to fixed IP-based networks, providing the service parity across the networks. As it is part of the mobile softswitch, services like prepaid billing and parallel ringing can be provided without additional integration work.

Nokia Siemens Networks is a market leader with more than 100 VoIP / IMS solution deployments in wireline and wireless networks worldwide. Nokia Siemens Networks’ IMS is an open, standardized system for combining mobile and fixed line services, making it possible for end users to seamlessly access the same services over any type of access.
