Plan NR - twice as much renewable energy by 2012
HP plans to double the share of renewable energy in production and research activities: from 4% in 2008 to 8% in 2012. The plan complements the HP initiative, under which the company is committed to reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions on their own and leased facilities worldwide by the year 2010 by 16% compared to 2005.
In order to reduce atmospheric emissions of carbon dioxide HP puts on the use of various renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and also to reduce and optimize energy consumption at its plants around the world. In 2007, HP purchased 61.4 million kilowatt hour (kWh) of renewable energy in the U.S. and has successfully achieved its goal to increase renewable energy purchases by more than 350%.
Recently, HP has completed the installation at its plant in San Diego of general gelioenergeticheskoy capacity of 1.1 megawatts, which includes 6256 solar panels. This is one of the largest solar energy systems in the district of San Diego, which is expected to provide more than 10% of the energy business and in the next 15 years will save the company 750 thousand dollars. In addition, the use of the system will allow for the next 30 years to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 60 million pounds (27.5 tons), equivalent to providing electricity to 3800 homes or reduce the number of cars on the streets for more than 5250 in that period.
With the intellectual dynamic cooling NR, energy savings in the SAC HP ranges from 20 to 40%. Establish TsODah system in Austin will allow annual savings of more than 100 thousand dollars. The construction of three of its businesses in Melbourne, Australia, HP also made a special focus on best environmental ways of production. When designing the buildings, special attention was paid to the possibility of a significant reduction in electricity consumption related to heating and cooling, and using more efficient lighting.
