Samsung and Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R) Launch Historic Breast Cancer Alliance
Samsung Commits to Multi-Million-Dollar Five-Year Program; Inaugural Partner for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Global Promise Fund(R)
LONDON, -- Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R), the largest breast cancer advocacy organization in the world, is teaming with Samsung Electronics Europe, a leading corporate supporter of breast cancer charities in Europe, in a collaboration unparalleled in the breast cancer movement.
The two announced that Samsung will be the inaugural corporate sponsor of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Global Promise Fund(R), launched earlier this year to support breast cancer awareness, outreach, research, and treatment programs around the world.
Samsung Electronics Europe president and CEO, In Soo Kim, said the Samsung-Komen partnership underscores Samsung's commitment to breast cancer programs. Samsung already provides support for breast cancer organizations in 17 European countries.
"Samsung recognizes that breast cancer affects many families throughout Europe," Kim said. "Because Samsung reaches millions of people through our products and presence, we aim to use our profile to influence and foster continuous, long-term support of breast cancer care. This partnership with Komen will go a long way toward achieving our mutual goal to end suffering from breast cancer."
The relationship will be officially launched Nov. 5 at the Samsung Pink Ribbon Gala in London at the Sheraton Hotel Park Lane, to be attended by leading CEOs, politicians, celebrities and advocates from throughout Europe. Funds raised at the gala will be directed specifically to the new Samsung Breast Cancer Initiative within Komen's Global Promise Fund.
"Breast cancer will kill as many as 10 million women worldwide, over the next 25 years, unless we provide better early detection, better treatments, and ultimately, cures for this disease," said Hala Moddelmog, president and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. "The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Global Promise Fund sets out to accomplish those tasks, particularly where economic or cultural issues are barriers to even the most basic of care."
Samsung, which already sponsors Komen Race for the Cure(R) events in Italy and Germany, will broaden that reach to serve as official sponsor for Race for the Cure events in other European countries. Dates and country locations for those races have yet to be determined.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R)
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure(R), we have invested more than $1.2 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
