3G Americas: the number of mobile subscribers exceeded 4 billion
The organization 3G Americas announced overcome historical milestone - 4 billion mobile connections in December 2008. According to Informa Telecoms & Media, this represents 60% of the population of Earth. In some countries, millions of users connect to wireless networks for the first time.
While emerging markets have continued to increase the level of penetration of cellular communications, wireless technology continues its evolution. To date, more than 100 operators, including industry leader, announced plans to transfer its network to the standard of new generation LTE beginning in 2010.
The number of 3G users is also increasing. Now there are about 415 million subscribers of 3G-services. 77% (320 million) of them in a network UMTS / HSPA, and the remaining 95 million - for CDMA EV-DO. The number of commercial networks UMTS / HSPA reached 258 units in over 100 countries around the world.
