Huawei unveils Windows 7-enabled 3.5G mobile modules

China-based Huawei Technologies has come with a built-in 3.5G mobile module that supports Microsoft's upcoming Windows 7 OS (operating system), according to company representatives who participated in the recently concluded Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) Taipei 2008 early this week.

While displaying the mobile device at the WinHEC, Huawei claimed that Asustek Computer has decided to use the built-in 3.5G mobile modules in its Eee PCs.

Citing an IDC report that projected that global netbook shipments will grow to 20.8 million units in 2009 from 11 million units in 2008, Huawei believes that the 3.5G modules will become a standard part of mobile Internet devices in the future.

In addition to making inroads in the netbook market, Huawei expects to strengthen its cooperation with telecom services operators in mobile broadband business using Windows 7-enabled wireless devices, said the representatives.
