Taiwan market: APBT breaks even two months ahead of schedule
Asia Pacific Broadband Telecom's (APBT's) 3G telecoms service in the Taiwan market reached breakeven in October 2008, two months earlier than originally scheduled, according to the company.
APBT saw a larger increase in subscribers after it launched an offering of free intra-network voice communications, the company explained.
The number of APBT subscribers increased to 1.77 million at the end of November and is expected to rise to 1.8 million at the end of December 2008, the company indicated. APBT aims to reach 2.3 million subscribers by the end of 2009.
This year, APBT has budgeted NT$3-4 million (US$90-120 million) to procure 600,000 3G handsets. The company procured 500,000 units in 2007.
