Montreal Jewish General Hospital Improves Care and Reduces Costs with Motorola’s Enterprise Mobility Solution
Motorola supports current and future mobility initiatives with enterprise WLAN solution for point-of-care, voice and AeroScout asset tracking applications
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced that Montreal Jewish General Hospital has deployed its wireless LAN (WLAN) solution to support several of its current and future mobility initiatives. Montreal Jewish General Hospital is a 680-bed facility providing quality patient care in Montreal, Canada.
“We selected Motorola’s enterprise WLAN solution because our hospital needed an infrastructure with the reliability, security and high performance required to support Voice-over-IP, point-of-care and real-time location applications,” said Dr. Stephen Rosenthal, CSPQ, director of information services, Montreal Jewish General Hospital. “The Motorola products give us the flexibility we need to run a wide variety of critical applications over our wireless network, without any fear of downtime, interference or roaming problems.”
The WLAN solution utilizes Motorola’s RFS7000 wireless switches and AP300 access ports to deliver always-on connectivity for the hospital’s staff. With the WLAN in place, the hospital has adopted advanced staff communications on IP phones for its nurses throughout the facility, as well as data applications at the bedside and connectivity for smart infusion pumps. In addition, the hospital has installed an industry-leading Motorola AirDefense wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) to meet regulatory requirements for wireless security and to monitor ongoing performance.
The hospital’s wireless network also includes integration with an active RFID asset management solution from AeroScout that delivers accurate location tracking and management of critical medical equipment. The hospital is using AeroScout’s Wi-Fi-based active RFID tags, MobileView Software and Location Engine in conjunction with Motorola’s WLAN to enable staff to pinpoint the equipment they need throughout the facility in real-time. Using the combined solution, the hospital manages equipment more efficiently and delivers improved comfort and care to patients without the need to install additional and costly readers that are often required by competing solutions.
“The deployment at Montreal Jewish General Hospital exemplifies a key trend in healthcare - advanced wireless networks enabling critical applications for improved patient care and streamlined hospital operations vs. being only an extension of wired networking,” Sujai Hajela, vice president and general manager of Enterprise WLAN, Motorola Enterprise Mobility business. “Motorola enterprise WLAN solutions provide healthcare organizations with a proven, reliable platform for delivering mobility to the point-of-care, while meeting troubleshooting requirements and security regulations such as HIPAA head-on.”
Motorola offers a comprehensive portfolio of wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure solutions designed to enable the truly wireless enterprise, regardless of the size of your business — from large enterprises with locations all over the world to branch offices and small businesses. Delivering Internet protocol (IP) coverage to virtually all spaces both indoors and outdoors, Motorola's innovative wireless enterprise portfolio includes fixed broadband, mesh, enterprise WLAN and Motorola AirDefense wireless security solutions. With time-proven resiliency, security and performance equal to or greater than that of a wired network, Motorola’s solutions substantially reduce network deployment and maintenance costs, and ensure the availability of cost-effective wireless connectivity in every corner of the enterprise. The result is the truly wireless enterprise — offering full mobility at a fraction of the cost of a traditional wired network.
