PlayNow™ content download service using in-store kiosks in Asia
On January 14, 2009 Sony Ericsson announced that end-users can access PlayNow™ mobile content via offline download to their phones using in-store kiosks in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. An alternative to over-the-air (OTA), PlayNow™ kiosks offer the convenience of speedy downloads of bulk content - be it complete music albums or movies - at an affordable price, directly onto mobile phones.
First mobile entertainment content delivery service at retail locations
PlayNow kiosk is the first-of-its-kind and will be available in more than 80 Sony Ericsson stores throughout Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore during the first phase of the rollout.
Using a smartcard available for sale at Sony Ericsson stores, end-users simply connect their mobile phone to a download station, select the entertainment content they wish to download, and in a matter of minutes, the items will be transferred directly to their phones. Available content for offline download includes full-length movies, TV series, gaming titles and thousands of DRM-free music tracks, with localized content being an important component.
