Acer to launch own-brand smartphone at MWC
Acer has said that it will launch an own-brand smartphone in the Mobile World Congress (MWC), slated for February 16-19 in Barcelona, Spain. The company has already began taking pre-sale orders from some markets, including the UK and Taiwan.
The smartphone is described as a variant of the Glofiish DX900 handset unveiled by E-Ten Information Systems in mid-2008, given the similarity in outer appearance and specifications, commented market watchers.
Acer completed its acquisition of E-Ten in the third quarter of 2008.
The DX900, which runs on Windows Mobile 6.1, supports dual-SIM cards, GSM/EDGE and 3.5G/HSDPA and features a 2.8-inch VGA touch-screen display and 3-megapixel camera. The device to be launched under the Acer brand is expected to be similar to the DX900, but will only support a single SIM card.
