Mexico D.F., Mexico and Espoo, Finland - Nokia announced today a partnership with América Móvil to bring Nokia Maps Navigation to América Móvil consumers in Latin America. The two industry leaders will collaborate to bring cutting edge location-based services to América Móvil consumers who purchase Nokia GPS-enabled phones.
"América Móvil has a deep understanding of the Latin America region and what consumers want, and what they want is to have access to the best mobile experience in the simplest way," said Marco Quatorze, Value Added Services Director of América Móvil. "Through this agreement, we make it possible for users to experience Nokia Maps and innovative social location features at their fullest the minute they purchase the phone."
"Nokia mobile devices, combined with Nokia Maps and value added navigation services, put our social context in the palms of our hands", said Blanca Juti, Nokia Vice President for América Móvil. "We're pleased to bring to consumers in Latin America, collaboratively with América Móvil, our deep knowledge on maps and connectivity, building the ability to always know where we are and what is around us."
This collaboration in Nokia Maps is part of a broader partnership between Nokia and América Móvil in the area of value-added services. The companies also announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding related to broader services collaboration. By combining América Móvil's marketing, customer and service expertise and Nokia's strength in device development and integration, the two companies are looking to jointly lead innovation in 3G data services in Latin America.
The Nokia Maps service is made available free of charge in all Nokia GPS-enabled devices. Users wanting the voice-guided navigation service will be able to purchase it from the operator. América Móvil is one of the first mobile service providers in the world to make this capability available to its customers, starting in Mexico in March, and coming soon to other markets where América Móvil operates.
Nokia Maps, with GPS functionality and featuring location-based services, will empower users to expertly navigate, whether searching for an unfamiliar address in their home city or exploring a vacation destination. Consumers can see the world in a new way, with maps for more than 200 countries and millions of points of interest. Making finding your way easier than ever before, users can now plan their route street to street, city to city, or country to country. They can view different perspectives, including satellite images, street maps, or combinations of the two - and all through their Nokia device.
Nokia Maps gives consumers access to world-class car navigation with visual and voice guidance in 46 languages, for over 60 countries. For those needing the last mile assistance or pedestrian guidance in town, consumers can get turn-by-turn navigation instructions with the Walk feature on their Nokia device.
