Huawei Launches World' s First Unified LTE Solution at Mobile World Congress

Showcases innovative SingleRAN solution

Huawei Technologies ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today demonstrated the world' s first unified frequency-division duplex and time-division duplex (FDD/TDD) long-term evolution (LTE) solution at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The new unified FDD/TDD LTE solution enables more efficient utilization of spectrum resources and helps operators deliver the highest-quality mobile broadband networks at a significantly reduced cost.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase some of our strongest and latest range of mobile solutions and products to the world of telecommunications at this year' s Mobile World Congress," said Mr. Wan Biao, President of Huawei Wireless Product Line. "Huawei hopes to pave the way for network convergence and evolution by developing innovative solutions that enable operators to simplify and unify their networks in preparation for future mobile service demand".

In January 2009, Huawei was awarded the world' s first LTE commercial contract by TeliaSonera, the largest telecommunication operator in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. Huawei was also selected by Telus and Bell to deploy North America' s first LTE-oriented HSPA network in Canada in 2008. As of today, Huawei' s LTE research has made more than 2,100 contributions to LTE and system architecture evolution, and the company owns ten percent of all LTE patents.

At the event, Huawei also showcased its enhanced SingleRAN solution, which now includes three elements – Uni-equipment, Uni-site and Uni-operation – that allow operators to deploy and evolve their networks with greater ease.

With Uni-equipment, operators can now realize the flexible evolution of multi-mode radio technologies. By deploying one single Uni-site, they can also reduce costs and time spent on network construction and deployment. In addition, Uni-operation achieves convergent network planning optimization, and enables operation, maintenance and resource management across a variety of technology systems.

Leading digital communications market research group, In-Stat said in a new report: "Huawei is the only manufacturer that has deployed the latest-generation base station on a large scale. Its SingleRAN solution, which is based on its fourth generation base station platform, supports network multi-mode convergence and evolution while reducing total costs of ownership for operators."
