In-Stat Ranks Huawei No.1 in Terms of UMTS/HSPA Contracts in 2008
Huawei Technologies ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it has been ranked first in the world for new commercial contracts won in UMTS/HSPA by leading digital communications market research group, In-Stat. According to In-Stat, Huawei has secured 42 new UMTS/HSPA contracts, representing 40.4 percent of the total number of new contracts signed globally, in 2008. This latest ranking means that Huawei has been recognized by various industry groups as the leader in UMTS/HSPA contracts for the third consecutive year.
In-Stat also recognized Huawei' s strong performance in wireless solutions and products with the following findings:
Mobile broadband – To date, Huawei has secured 128 UMTS/HSPA, or around 50 percent of such commercial networks globally. The UMTS/HSPA networks of over 25 leading mobile operators' in Europe are deployed by Huawei. Huawei was also selected by Telus and Bell Canada to deploy North America' s first LTE-oriented HSPA network in Canada in 2008. In addition, China Unicom also awarded Huawei the largest contract share in the first phase of its UMTS project in China.
GSM base station shipment – Huawei is ranked second globally, accounting for 24.4 percent of the 6 million transactions collected in 2008. Operators such as O2 and T-Mobile have modernized their GSM networks using Huawei' s latest generation of GSM base stations.
CDMA – Huawei is the industry leader, having won 110 CDMA2000 1x EV-DO commercial CDMA contracts. Huawei also helped China Telecom successfully deliver a CDMA2000 network in most cites across China.
"In-Stat' s latest appraisal attests to Huawei' s continuous efforts in developing mobile broadband solutions that meet the needs of customers. Operators around the world have given us the vote of confidence by selecting us as their strategic partner," said Mr. Wan Biao, President of Huawei Wireless Product Line.
In its report, In-Stat said: "Huawei is the only manufacturer that has deployed the latest-generation base station on a large scale. Its SingleRAN solution, which is based on its fourth generation base station platform, supports network multi-mode convergence and evolution from equipment to full network level, while reducing total costs of ownership for operators".
In-Stat predicts that the number of cellular subscribers will grow to 4.7 billion in the next five years. Given Huawei' s strong mobile broadband portfolio, In-Stat is of the view that the company will continue to maintain its leadership in the mobile market.
