China-based handset maker BYD to venture into PC OEM business, says paper
BYD Electronics, the Hong Kong-listed OEM handset subsidiary of China-based BYD Company, is ready to venture into the PC OEM business, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted media reports in China as indicating.
BYD is undertaking a second-phase expansion project of its plant in India, and the company also plans to initiate a number of acquisition projects in order to build up its integrated OEM capability worldwide, the paper said.
Meanwhile, arch rival Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) has begun to cooperate with China-based PC vendors such as Lenovo and Founder in PC OEM production in an attempt to fend off the approaching competition, the paper noted.
