Taiwan market: Samsung and Motorola to bring out Android-powered phones in 2H09

Samsung Electronics plans to introduce its first Android-power phone, the i7500, into the Taiwan market in July, while Motorola is also likely to launch its Google phones into the local market in the fourth quarter of the year, according to market sources.

Samsung will push sales of its Android phones in cooperation with a local carrier to be finalized in May or June, said HS Kim, general manager of Samsung Taiwan.

With Acer, Garmin-Asustek and LG Electronics all planning to jump on the Android bandwagon in addition to HTC (High Tech Computer), a total of five to six handset vendors will compete head-on for a slice of Taiwan's Android segment in the second half, noted the market sources.
