TELE2 and TELENOR launch 4G network in Sweden
The European telecommunications company TELE2 AB announced the signing of an agreement with one of its competitors, the company Telenor, to deploy a joint 4G network in Sweden. The agreement includes the establishment of a joint venture to build a network and the division of the frequency spectrum.
Construction of the network, which will become the largest 4G network in Sweden, will begin this year. It is anticipated that services high-speed Internet access based on mobile standard LTE (Long Term Evolution), will be available to consumers until the end of 2010, or when to appear in the presence of mobile devices (modems). At the same time will enhance the quality of voice transmission in the GSM standard for all subscribers.
In a joint venture TELE2 and Telenor will be equal partners. The agreement prescribed a division of the frequency spectrum in 900Mgts and 2600Mgts, which creates excellent conditions for deploying 4G network in Sweden a national scale.
The operators expect that by 2013 99 percent of the population of Sweden will be able to use the mobile Internet at speeds up to 80 Mb / s in rural areas and up to 150 Mb / s in urban areas. The joint project involves the expansion of GSM-network in the 30-50 per cent, resulting in the best of indoor-and outdoor-cover in the transfer of votes.
Sharing network provides enormous savings of capital and operating costs. Ultimately, this would provide even lower prices for subscribers of future networks, using the model of separation of networks (network sharing).
Doubtful that the operators in Russia in any near future will cooperate to jointly build new networks.
