Verizon Wireless Network Ready For College Basketball Championship In Detroit

SOUTHFIELD, MI — College basketball fans heading to Detroit for the upcoming championship games will have no problem making calls; exchanging text, picture and video messages; watching sports video highlights; and downloading music on their Verizon Wireless phones. The company has committed its full network capacity in and around the stadium to support its customers’ cell phone usage.

“Based on the typical crowds and the way they use their phones at sporting events in Detroit, we’ve built our network in and around the stadium to handle the significant spikes in usage we expect over the next few days,” said Greg Haller, president – Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky region, Verizon Wireless. “We are prepared to meet their needs once again.”

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $50 billion since it was formed – $5.5 billion on average every year – to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. Since the company was formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested $1.2 billion on improvements to its network in Michigan.
