China market: Handset sales up over 11% in March, CCID says
Sales of handsets in the China market grew 11.6% sequentially to 13.04 million units in March, according to data released recently by China-based market research firm CCID Consulting.
In particular, sales of CDMA handsets went up 110.4% to 2.67 million units in March and took up a 20.5% share of China's entire handset market, compared to just 10.9% in the previous month, CCID said.
The gains in the CDMA segment have driven up the market shares of the two leading China-based CDMA handset vendors, ZTE and Huawei Technologies, CCID noted.
ZTE saw its market share expand from 1.7% in February to 4.4% in March, making it the fifth largest handset vendor in the China market, whereas Huawei saw its share grow from 1.4% to 3.2%, helping the company grab seventh place, CCID said.
LG Electronics (LGE) also managed to improve its market share in March thanks to increased sales of CDMA models, CCID added.
