Ericsson, Zain and Earth Institute are struggling with poverty in Nigeria through the involvement of mobile technologies

The company Ericsson and the leading mobile operator in Africa and the Middle East - Zain, have become partners in providing mobile communications services with a view to improving the lives of 5000 people from the Nigerian village, far below the poverty line.

When working on the project «the new Millennium Villages», which is the result of a partnership between The Earth Institute at Columbia University, Millennium Promise and Society United Nations Development Program, the organization launched a world-renowned services to combat poverty in rural areas of the country. The program, aimed at promoting the international community in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (Millennium Development Goals), were included, the poorest regions of Nigeria.

Company Ericsson and Zain launched in this village, a network of second and third generations. Fixed radio Ericsson will expand coverage and improve communications in schools, hospitals, centers for cultural and social events, and telephone booths. Zain will provide free numbers and numbers of emergency, allowing quick contact with emergency services and health, while Ericsson will provide mobile tube for communication with medical staff.
