Ericsson and Ucom offer interactive TV viewers in Armenia
The company Ericsson announced that it will now provide services to provide access to high quality interactive TV to viewers in Armenia under an agreement with the company Ucom. Under the agreement Ericsson will provide a complete solution Ucom IPTV, including the technology of fiber-optic communication GPON. This is the first treaty of its kind concluded by Ericsson in Armenia.
As the company states, using IPTV, viewers will be able to enjoy the same interactive capabilities of television, which they are accustomed to use on their computers. There are functions such as instant messaging, Web-TV and access to social Mediaset. Community Services IPTV also will have access to multiple specialized portals, which will be presented to a wide range of channels of television broadcasting, video on demand, electronic program guides and personal video recording capabilities.
The new service is based on the technology of fiber optic access, known as Gigabit Passive Optical Network (Gigabit passive optical network, GPON). The supplier of this technology is also a company Ericsson. GPON allows the user to watch multiple HDTV channels and simultaneously download large files from the Internet without interrupting the broadcast TV.
The introduction of new technology will begin in July.
