iMetrik and Nokia Siemens Networks win Global Telecoms award for Business Service Innovation

A fast growing Canadian company wins for a pioneering range of ‘machine-to-machine’* services powered by Nokia Siemens Networks’ subscriber data management solution
iMetrik, a Canadian wireless solutions provider won the Global Telecoms Business (GTB) award for Business Service Innovation in London. The company was recognized for a pioneering range of automated remote asset tracking services offered over mobile networks. Powered by Nokia Siemens Networks’ industry leading Subscriber Data Management (SDM) platform, the services were launched in October 2008.

“We knew we were on to something unique and extremely valuable when we rolled out our initial range of applications that would cost efficiently track vehicles,” said Guy Chevrette, CEO, iMetrik. “Of course having your instincts pay off, not to mention validated by industry makes us feel extremely satisfied.”

To effectively manage remote asset data and link it to the relevant customers, iMetrik chose Nokia Siemens Networks’ Subscriber Data Management solution, including its Home Location Register (HLR). This allowed iMetrik to efficiently use open, consolidated subscriber information to develop a range of machine-to-machine (M2M) communication services**, delivering them across continents with a single global SIM card and a single invoice for customers.

“The differentiation was in combining rich subscriber data and real-time processing to develop innovative services that generate new revenue streams, while reducing customer costs,” said W. Stuart Jones, Head of Sales, Americas, Converged Core Subscriber Data Management, Nokia Siemens Networks. “At the crux was our industry leading subscriber data management solution that supports iMetrik on the course of true business service innovation.”

The GTB Innovation Awards, organized by the Global Telecoms Business magazine are designed to showcase innovative projects involving telecoms operators and service providers around the world, in association with their vendors and suppliers. The Innovation Awards 2009 were held in London with winners honored at a specially organized dinner.

“We were impressed by the quality and number of nominations this year — the most we have ever had,” said Alan Burkitt-Gray, Editor, Global Telecoms Business, “so it was a special triumph to be one of the winners this year. This was an outstanding project and well deserves its award.”
