TFN Media, a cable TV MSO (multi-system operator) in Taiwan and subsidiary of Taiwan Mobile, plans to launch a digital cable TV service, New TV, in July and aims to reach 15,000 subscribers at the end of 2009, according to company president James Jeng.
TFN Media currently has 550,000 cable TV subscribers and about 380,000 can be covered by digitization, Jeng indicated. TFN Media expects the number of digital cable TV subscribers to increase to 75,000 in 2011 and plans to procure up to 200,000 set-top boxes (STBs) in 2009-2011, Jeng noted.
Other MSOs such as KBR and Taiwan Broadband Communications (TBC) launched digital TV services in the first quarter of 2009, while China Network Systems (CNS) plans to join the market in July.
