Alcatel-Lucent to push sales of IP Edge and core network equipment
Alcatel-Lucent will continue to push the development of IP Edge network equipment with plans to launch high-capacity 100 Gigabit Ethernet-based Edge equipment as well as IP core networks, according to Alex Zinin, vice president for IP solutions at Alcatel-Lucent Asia Pacific.
For the next five years, the global market for IP Edge network switches and routers is expected to expand at an annual rate of 9.6%, while the market for IP core network equipment is likely to grow at 5.6% a year, Zinin noted.
To meet growing service traffic over IP Edge networks, Alcatel-Lucent began delivering 100 Gigabit Ethernet-based routers in mid-2009, and shipments to further pick up momentum in 2010, Zinin revealed.
Alcatel-Lucent's shipments of IP Edge network router equipment are expected to top 35,000 units in 2009, according to company projections.
