China market: ZTE to launch Android-based Ophones at year-end 2009, says reports
China-based telecom equipment maker ZTE will launch Android-based smartphones running on Open Mobile System (OMS) developed by China Mobile at the end of 2009, the China-based Sina.com quoted sources at ZTE as saying.
ZTE will also develop TD-SCDMA smartphones based on OMS in addition to its current deployment of Windows Mobile-based smartphones, Sina said.
In addition to ZTE, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics (LGE), Motorola and TCL all reportedly planning to also launch OMS-based smartphones (Ophones) in the future, Sina added.
