FET to kick off WiMAX operations in central Taiwan at year-end 2009

Taiwan-based WiMAX licensee Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) will start commercial WiMAX operations initially in Taichung, central Taiwan, at the end of 2009, according to company sources.

FET's initial operations will focus on last-mile connections, providing wireless Internet-access service to home users, said the sources, adding that the company aims to boost the number of its broadband subscribers to 300,000 by the end of the year, up from 200,000 currently.
