The market of digital pay television in Russia
Analytical company J'son & Partners Consulting presented the results of another study of Russian market of digital pay television, which provides information on the state of the industry at the end of 2008.
According to data from field studies, in-class digital pay television is dominated by men: for example, subscribers to digital pay television 52% of men and 48% of women. The bulk of the subscribers of digital pay-TV refers to the age of 18 to 40 years, with the largest share belongs to category of 21-25 years and 26-30 years (21% and 20% respectively). This is because users falling into this age category are more receptive to innovation.
The subscriber base of digital pay television, on the basis of 2008 reached 4.1 million households, representing 34% of total base pay television. Thus, on the basis of 2008 penetration of digital pay television was about 8% of all households. In doing so, the largest regional market for digital pay-TV market is in Moscow, where all operators of pay television service to provide pay television in a digital format.
At the end of 2008, revenue from digital pay television accounted for about 196 million share in the revenue from pay television services was about 25%.
