Nokia in the second quarter of 2009: the growth of operating profitability in the division "Mobile Phones and Services"

The Finnish company Nokia has published data on its financial performance in the second quarter of 2009, whose main figures are as follows:

• Net sales amounted to 9.9 billion euro, a 25% lower compared to last year, but 7% higher in comparison with the previous quarter (in monetary units fall - 24%, and growth - 7%).
• Net sales of units of mobile phones and services amounted to 6.6 billion euro, which is 28% lower compared to the year 2008 and 7% higher in comparison with the previous quarter (the same rates and in monetary units). Not IFRS operating profitability indicators have shown an increase in 12.2% (20.1% compared with the second quarter of 2008).
• Gross margin, units of mobile phones and services amounted to 34%, as compared with the previous quarter, higher by 33.8%.
• Net sales of units of services amounted to 140 million (billed at 207 million) euro. Because of divestitsii their business on information security ( "Security Appliance") in April this year, the company noted that net sales may not be directly compared with previous periods.
• Estimated volume of all mobile phones in the world amounted to 268 million, which compared with the previous year decreased by 12% and 5% higher in comparison with the previous quarter.
• The company Nokia shipped 103.2 million units of mobile terminals, which is 15% lower compared to the same period last year and 11% higher in comparison with the previous quarter.
• Estimated share of market for Nokia in the second quarter of 2009 amounted to 38%, whereas in the second quarter of 2008 it was 40%, and the first quarter of 2009 - 37%.
• Average selling price for mobile phone, dropped to 62 euros from 65 euros in the 1 st quarter of 2009.
• Net sales of NAVTEQ was 147 million euro, up 11% more in comparison with the previous quarter.
• Net sales of Nokia Siemens Networks unit of 3.2 billion euro, an increase of 21% less compared to the same period last year and 7% higher in comparison with the previous quarter (in monetary units fall - 20%, and growth -- 8%).
• Cash flow to current operating activities amounted to 716 million euro.
• Total cash and other liquid assets at the end of the second quarter of 2009 amounted to 7 billion euro.
