Republic Services Selects Sprint as Preferred Provider for Entire Range of Advanced Wireless Services
Nation’s 2nd Largest Provider of Waste and Environmental Services Connects Its National Operations with 23,087 Wireless Lines; Relies on Multiple Services Operating on Sprint’s iDEN and CDMA Platforms.
OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-- Sprint (NYSE:S) and Republic Services, Inc. (NYSE:RSG) announced that Sprint will serve as Republic’s preferred provider for all wireless services.
The $30 million, two-and-a-half year agreement extends Sprint’s role, which in previous years has included push-to-talk services over the Nextel National Network and in-building coverage services provided by the Sprint Converged Network Solutions team. Sprint now has the opportunity to also provide CDMA-based services over the Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband Network.
Sprint will provide 23,087 wireless lines for Republic’s national operations, with the potential for thousands of additional activations.
“Sprint is proud to be associated with Republic as its preferred wireless provider,” said John Dupree, vice president – Enterprise & Federal, Sprint. “Republic is recognized for its innovative use of technology across different aspects of its business, including industry-leading green initiatives in the areas of recycling, increased fuel economy and the generation of clean, renewable energy. This smart deployment of technology extends to the strategic use of communications to serve its customers and communities with maximum speed and efficiency.”
Republic’s use of communications technology includes equipping drivers and other employees with Nextel Direct Connect® devices that enable instant communications on the fastest national push-to-talk network.* In addition to Nextel Direct Connect sub-second call set-up, Republic employees also rely on applications such as NextMail, which allows them to instantly send voice messages to fellow team members’ e-mail accounts. Under the new agreement, Sprint will provide additional voice and data services on America’s most dependable 3G network.**
“Sprint has proven its ability to design and support a suite of wireless services that helps fully optimize Republic’s fleet operations and achieve enhanced responsiveness to our customers,” said Bill Halnon, Chief Information Officer, Republic. “By extending our relationship to include Sprint’s full portfolio of wireless capabilities, we expect to benefit from a wider range of data services that will further contribute to our business performance, including reduced operational costs.”
Sprint serves Republic through its newly formed Business Markets Group (BMG). Composed of more than 4,000 sales, support, marketing and operations personnel, Sprint’s BMG is dedicated solely to enterprise, general business and public sector customers. BMG delivers wireless, wireline and converged solutions for companies, drawing on the nation’s most dependable 3G mobile broadband network,** 4G capabilities that are well ahead of Sprint’s competition, the fastest national push-to-talk network,* and a comprehensive solutions portfolio of devices and applications.
