Samsung Blue Earth release revealed

The solar-powered Samsung Blue Earth phone has been confirmed for an October 09 release.

Samsung has finally revealed the release date for its upcoming solar powered Blue Earth handset as October this year.

The announcement came yesterday at an event in San Francisco and revealed that the Blue Earth will be arriving just at the end of the summer, here at least. Exactly which regions will be getting their hands on the S7550 is still unconfirmed.

We already revealed a little while back that the familiar Samsung TouchWiz UI will be in place to ensure, and switch from mains to solar power doesn't leave you feeling lost. We're not sure if the touchscreen pebble-shaped device will come with a mains charger too, but presumably it will.

The Blue Earth does feature other eco-credentials such as being constructed from recycled bottles, but we are left wondering how useful the 'eco walk' (a CO2 calculator and pedometer combined) and 'energy-efficient' mode will be in real terms.

Pricing and release specifics will no doubt surface as we approach that October release date.
