America's Top Amateur Chef Crowned at LG Electronics' 'Taste of Something Better' Cooking Competition

Kristine Snyder from Maui to Represent United States in 'Life Tastes Good' Global Cooking Competition.

NEW YORK, -- As the heat was rising in the LG Kitchen at the Bon Appetit Supper Club & Cafe®, a distinguished panel of celebrity chefs proclaimed Kristine Snyder from Maui, Hawaii, America's Top Amateur Chef in the LG Electronics USA "Taste of Something Better" cooking competition. The winner took home an impressive prize package, including a complete LG kitchen makeover and the opportunity to represent the United States in LG's global 2009 "Life Tastes Good" Championship, Nov. 10-12 in Bangkok, Thailand.

With just over 30 minutes on the clock to cook up something better in the LG Kitchen, competition finalists, Jamie Miller of Napa, Calif., Lindsay Weiss of Kansas City, Kan. and Kristine Snyder of Maui, Hawaii, worked furiously in the LG Kitchen to perfect their culinary masterpieces. The world-class team of celebrity chefs, including Cat Cora, Bon Appetit Executive Chef and the first and only female "Iron Chef" on the Food Network's "Iron Chef America," Jonathan Lindenauer, Bon Appetit Chef de Cuisine, and "Top Chef" fan favorite, Richard Blais, carefully tasted each recipe, sharing feedback with the contestants and audience. After a 10-minute deliberation, Snyder was crowned the winner. The Food Network's "Chic & Easy" host Mary Nolan, served as emcee for the New York City cook-off and festivities.

"I am thrilled and honored that my recipe was chosen to represent the U.S. in LG's global cooking competition," said Snyder. "It's exciting to compete in front of an audience, including such a renowned group of chefs that I'm used to seeing on TV. I felt at home in the LG Kitchen, and the array of appliances made it much easier for me to perfect my dish."

The three finalists, having traveled cross-county to compete in the competition, were chosen from hundreds of submissions in an LG-sponsored recipe contest announced earlier this summer. Miller grilled her famous recipe for Caesar Bacon Brie Burgers on Brioche on the LG radiant cooktop, while Weiss prepared her recipe for Moro Orange-Kissed Jerk Chicken with Hakuna Matata Rice and Caribbean Cream using the radiant cooktop and LG over-the-range microwave with warming lamp technology. Meanwhile, Snyder used the LG built-in wall oven to perfect her winning recipe, the Soy-Glazed Mahi Mahi with Cilantro Butter Shrimp.

"The recipes prepared today truly exhibit the culinary prowess that LG hopes to encourage in the kitchen, by providing amateur chefs with the tools they need to cook up something better right at home," said John Weinstock, vice president, marketing, LG Electronics USA and a competition judge. "I had the great pleasure of tasting each recipe and the enormous challenge of judging the competition. With such a talented group of amateur chefs, I knew that each contestant would do an incredible job in the global competition."

While Snyder took home the grand prize, no one went home empty-handed. The three prize packages included:

•Grand prize: Snyder earned a trip for two to Thailand to compete in LG's global cooking competition, a premium LG kitchen package, including gas cooktop, double wall oven, 4-door French-door refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave oven, along with $1,000 to enjoy while in New York for the competition.
•Runner-up: Miller won a complete LG premium appliance package including gas cooktop, double wall oven and 4-door French-door refrigerator, along with $1,000 to enjoy while in New York.
•Second runner-up: Weiss was awarded an LG double wall oven, along with $1,000 to enjoy while in New York.
