Fast and Easy Printing for Remote Desktops

New ThinPrint release optimizes printing by remote access to virtual and physical desktops.

DENVER, -- The print optimization expert ThinPrint is bringing a new release of its .print Desktop Engine to market. The new version optimizes printing by remote access to virtual or physical desktops and makes partial printouts possible for the first time ever. In addition to the Microsoft protocols RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol from Microsoft) and TCP/IP, it also supports the ICA protocol from Citrix making it ideally suited for use in virtual desktop environments based on Citrix XenDesktop. The .print Desktop Engine also provides optimal print support for users who access a remote, physical work terminal via RDP or when used in virtual desktop environments (VDI) with VMware and an external session broker.

Users who access their remote desktop PC with a laptop while on the go or employees working from a home office are faced with a problem when they want to print out a processed document: The printer driver must be installed on the remote desktop or the virtual PC in order to print to the local printer on site. Not to mention that the usually large print files are transmitted very slowly over narrow bandwidth connections. The .print Desktop Engine 7.6 can help. In all desktop environments - no matter if they're virtual or physical - the newest member of the .print product family ensures that the desired documents can be printed out on the locally available printer at any time. All locally available printers are automatically mapped in the session by ThinPrint AutoConnect. ThinPrint's DRIVER FREE PRINTING, a virtual printer driver, simplifies administration by making it unnecessary to have the printer driver on the remote desktop PC or the virtual machine; instead, the user installs the printer on his local desktop. The Advanced Adaptive Compression reduces print data by up to 98% and ensures fast printouts and low bandwidth needs.

The .print Desktop Engine 7.6 enables direct printing to network printers and supports local printing even in conjunction with cost-saving thin clients. The installation is plug-and-play. The new solution supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 and is available in a 32-bit or 64-bit version.

"As a single-user solution, the Desktop Engine provides ideal printing support for remote access via RDP to a remote desktop PC. But it also eases driver management in smaller virtual desktop environments and itself ensures a genuine desktop feeling based on the speed of printing," said Charlotte Kunzell, Senior Vice President of ThinPrint AG. "For larger VDI environments we recommend centralized print management - here, too, our customers benefit from the proven .print Server Engine."

The solution is available from more than 500 resellers and distributors worldwide. A single-user license is available at a net list price of $69. License packs with 5, 10, or 100 units are available for VDI environments. When purchasing a license pack of 100, the list price per license is then reduced to $27.50.
