Gil Kaufman Joins Datacom Team as VP Engineering
EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y., -- Datacom Systems, a leading manufacturer of innovative data access solutions, announced that Gilbert "Gil" Kaufman has joined its executive team as vice president of engineering, effective Monday, September 14.
As vice president of engineering, Kaufman will oversee the engineering management and development process while driving Datacom's overall technical direction. He will direct the evolutionary design, development and growth of Datacom's progressive line of network access solutions to meet the industry's ever-changing and expanding needs for exceptionally reliable TAPs, data aggregation tools and access switches.
With more than 30 years' experience in the development and implementation of leading-edge information and communication technologies (ICT) in the enterprise environment, Kaufman brings broad technical and analytical ICT expertise to the Datacom team, including hands-on experience in data, networking, voice, video and web services. In addition to his technical proficiency, Kaufman's high-level leadership experience includes work with some of the world's most powerful names in data communications. He has successfully built, turned-around and integrated strong, distributed engineering organizations with a focus on resource and project management, across multiple projects and product lines.
"Gil's impressive technical credentials are well-matched to his adaptive and proactive leadership focus, collaborative management style and cross-functional strategic approach," said Sam Lanzafame, CEO of Datacom Systems. "We are excited to have Gil's well-rounded perspective on our team."
Kaufman began his engineering management career at Codex Corp., which was acquired by Motorola. He worked with a broad range of networking and data communication technologies before being named vice president of engineering at Xyplex, which successfully went public in 1991. He went on to lead engineering at RAScom and Cayman Systems before joining Cisco Systems, where he successfully managed development for the content networking business unit. At BigBand Networks, Kaufman served as executive vice president of R&D through a successful IPO in 2007. Before joining Datacom, he served as vice president of engineering at Covergence, a VoIP session border controller venture, which was acquired by Acme Packet in 2009. He holds an MSEE from Purdue University and a BSEE from Lehigh University.
"Datacom is widely recognized for its highly reliable devices that enable companies to achieve exceptional visibility and maximize the return on investment for their networking infrastructure," Kaufman said. "I'm eager to bring my experience with integrated multi-media applications to the table and contribute to Datacom's continued growth in the market."
