Middleburgh Telephone Company Selects Motorola FTTH to Deliver Personalized Media Experiences to Subscribers

Motorola marks GPON win as Middleburgh Telephone readies all-fiber network to deliver the highest quality video and broadband experiences available to consumers today.

HORSHAM, Pa – Motorola, Inc.(NYSE:MOT) Home and Networks Mobility business announced that Middleburgh Telephone Company (MIDTEL) has selected Motorola’s Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) to enable the delivery of rich personalized media experiences to its subscribers. Middleburgh is the latest in a series of North American telecom operators, large and small, to choose Motorola’s GPON and RF overlay video solutions for all-fiber ultra-broadband service delivery.

Based west of Albany, New York, Middleburgh will deploy a proven Motorola GPON network throughout its serving area, updating its current HFC network to a high capacity all-fiber network that will readily grow and adapt into the future. With support for one-gigahertz RF overlay, SCTE-55-1 RF return path and integrated return path demodulation, this Motorola all-fiber solution enables the rapid introduction of GPON technology into any cable network while helping to protect existing RF video network and set-top investments. These Motorola capabilities enable the highest quality video entertainment and broadband experiences available in the market today.

“We see this as a great opportunity to deliver the highest quality video and broadband services available today to our subscribers,” said Jason Becker, General Manager, Middleburgh Telephone Company. “We believe Motorola has the right solutions to help us as we evolve our infrastructure from HFC to GPON based fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). We chose Motorola because of the success we’ve had working with them in the past, and because of the company’s extensive expertise in GPON and video deployments.”

“Fully integrated and proven solutions are important to our customers looking to evolve their network from traditional HFC to all-fiber GPON based service delivery,” said Joe Cozzolino, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Access Networks Solutions, Motorola Home and Networks Mobility. “Middleburgh is a leader among rural telecom operators, and we believe the company can be a model for future all-fiber deployments across the country.”

The new FTTP network for Middleburgh will run on the proven Motorola AXS2200 optical line terminal (OLT) and the 1 GHz capable Motorola ONT1400 single-family optical network terminal (ONT). Motorola’s FTTP solutions inherently support SCTE-55-1, or Motorola RF return path functionality, for easy integration with Motorola RF set-tops and headend equipment.

Motorola will have demonstrations of its FTTP and RF solutions during the FTTH Conference and Expo September 27-October 1, 2009 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston Texas.
