Sonic CineVision 3 Powers Encoding for Connected Devices

New Sonic HyperCode Technology to Streamline Content Preparation for Multi-Device Electronic Delivery via Roxio CinemaNow.

NOVATO, Calif., -- Sonic Solutions(R) (Nasdaq: SNIC), unveiled CineVision(R) 3, a comprehensive upgrade to its market-leading professional encoding platform. Version 3 integrates a range of targeted technologies and features that significantly streamlines content preparation in SD, HD, and 3D for digital delivery via Sonic's Roxio CinemaNow(TM) online movie delivery service. CineVision 3 also introduces HyperCode(TM) Sonic's new technology that dramatically reduces encode times for multi-format and multi-device delivery. This latest version is ideal for efficiently creating high-quality Blu-ray Disc (BD) and DVD titles, as well as preparing optimized and secure content streams and downloads for digital delivery to a wide array of home set-tops, PCs and mobile consumer electronics (CE) devices.

"For over two decades Sonic has been the choice for high-end content creation facilities, studios and authoring houses in production centers world-wide as they built an industry based on the optical disc. Our CineVision 3 is perfectly positioned as our customers add digital delivery as a core component in their plans for business expansion in 2010," said Rolf Hartley, senior vice president and general manager of Sonic's Premium Content Applications Group. "CineVision has already proven its power and reliability in producing world-class images for BD and DVD, now CineVision 3 with HyperCode adds adaptive streaming output for video on demand (VOD) and electronic sell-through (EST) so that our customers can take advantage of the business opportunities offered by the explosive growth of digital delivery and the broad reach of Roxio CinemaNow."

CineVision is already used by the vast majority of facilities around the world producing commercial BD and DVD releases. The latest version adds a range of capabilities for effectively and efficiently preparing content for digital sell-through including the addition of a new HyperCode multi-bandwidth encoding, multiplexing and formatting engine. HyperCode leverages Sonic's vast experience with video codecs and exclusive segment-based controls to enable CineVision 3 to deliver a mastering-quality video experience for streaming and downloads to connected CE devices.

CineVision 3 with HyperCode enables professional compressionists to create adaptive AVC encodes that enable automatic broadband scalability for buffer-free playback of streaming content, as well as VC-1 encodes for high-quality CinemaNow downloadable titles. CineVision 3 also leverages in-facility assets through its newly added ability to produce multiple-simultaneous encodes across multiple intra-networked PCs enabling adaptive stream encodes to be performed simultaneously.

"CineVision 3 is in a class by itself. No other professional encoding application offers as much image control, quality and now output targets designed to further our business in the emerging digital delivery market," said Brian Mackewich, vice president of Gizmo Enterprises Inc. in New York, NY. "CineVision 3 can do multiple simultaneous encodes which is great because we can quickly produce files for several DVD, BD or online delivery projects at once, which is especially important as we scale to the level of high-volume content preparation required for next-day TV releases, back catalog conversion and delivering new releases in our tight deadline environment."

Sonic plans to release CineVision 3 in the December quarter this year through Sonic's resale channels worldwide. CineVision 3 with HyperCode will demonstrated at IBC (Stand 7.J38), September 11th to the 15th, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
