Sprint Expands Portfolio of Eco-Friendly Phone Accessories

Accessories will be featured in Sprint’s new, dedicated ‘green’ section in retail stores.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-- Sprint (NYSE: S) announced an expanded line of accessories that includes chargers and device cases for consumers seeking eco-friendly products. Sprint’s growing line of “green” phone accessories will be available in the new, dedicated green sections at all company-owned retail locations, and online at www.sprint.com/greenaccessories.

Sprint is introducing a new eco-friendly cell-phone charger: the All-In-One Vehicle and Wall Charger to compliment the SOLIO solar powered charger already offered from Sprint. The All-In-One charger offers users the benefit of being an all-in-one car and home/office charger. It also features an inline USB port that allows two devices to be charged simultaneously and operates within Energy Star guidelines. The All-in-One charger is available for $39.99.

In early October Sprint will introduce a new SOLIO solar powered charger which will be featured in the dedicated green section of Sprint retail stores. Currently Sprint offers the SOLIO Mono Hybrid Charger available for purchase online only at www.sprint.com/accessories. The SOLIO line of chargers allows cell-phone users to charge their device from the sun or electrical socket allowing customers to recharge their mobile phone anywhere, anytime.

“We are pleased to offer Sprint customers ‘greener’ options for their wireless devices,” said Ralph Reid, vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility for Sprint. “Sprint currently offers more eco-friendly accessories than any other U.S. telecommunications company. Sprint is a leader in the wireless industry with its environmental efforts, as shown by the launch of the Samsung Reclaim, a growing portfolio of eco-friendly accessories and our ambitious wireless recycling efforts.”

Additionally, to protect the newest eco-friendly addition to the Sprint line-up, the Samsung Reclaim™, the first phone in the U.S. constructed partly from corn-based bio-plastic, Sprint is introducing Eco-Friendly Universal Cases made from sustainable materials – cotton and linen. The cases are recyclable and compatible with nearly all devices in the Sprint portfolio, and are available in two sizes for $19.99 each.

When customers purchase Samsung Reclaim from Sprint, $2 of the proceeds will benefit the Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program, which supports land conservation across the United States and protects some of the world’s most beautiful and important natural habitats.

Sprint recently announced new environmental initiatives, including becoming the first U.S. wireless carrier to establish a set of environmental design criteria for future devices and a commitment to reduce paper usage by 30 percent during the next five years. Sprint also has an aggressive industry-first goal of reaching a 90 percent phone collection rate for reuse/recycling, compared with annual wireless device sales, by 2017. Since 2001, Sprint wireless recycling programs have diverted nearly 18 million cell phones from landfills for reuse or recycling. Wireless recycling is one of Sprint’s key environmental priorities.
