Vodafone Italia and RIM Announce the New BlackBerry Curve 8520 for Customers in Italy

Approachable New Smartphone Offers Email, Messaging, Social Networking, Music and Entertainment for People on the Go.

Milan, Italy - Vodafone Italia and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) announced the new BlackBerry® Curve™ 8520 smartphone for customers in Italy. The handset, a new addition to the BlackBerry Curve series of smartphones, and available from Vodafone starting September 3rd.

The slim new BlackBerry Curve 8520 is an incredibly approachable smartphone that will be available to Vodafone customers in black or frost. For people who like to be connected, it provides easy mobile access to email, messaging (IM, SMS, MMS) and popular social networking sites (including Facebook® and MySpace) and features a highly tactile full-QWERTY keyboard for comfortable, accurate typing. It also features rich multimedia capabilities and easy access to music, games and other mobile apps for entertainment on the go.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone is a quad-band phone, and is also Wi-Fi®-enabled to give customers faster Web browsing and extended data coverage.

In addition to providing customers with the industry’s leading mobile email and messaging solution, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone is designed to be efficient and convenient. It introduces an innovative touch-sensitive trackpad, which makes scrolling and selection smooth and easy for a great navigation experience. It is also the first BlackBerry smartphone to feature dedicated media keys, smoothly integrated along the top of the handset, giving customers an easy, convenient way to control their music and videos.

Vodafone Italia is offering the new BlackBerry Curve 8520 to all pay-as-you-go and contract customers on a wide range of price plans. Contract customers who choose one of the “Vodafone Piu’ Facile” plans will be able to purchase the new smartphone at an excellent price, in addition to free calls to all numbers and unlimited calls to their favourite Vodafone number.

Businesses and professionals that pay VAT can have the BlackBerry Curve 8520 by choosing one of the brand new contract plans: “Vodafone Chiavi in Mano”, “Vodafone Chiavi in Mano Broadband” and “Vodafone Chiavi in Mano Mobile e ADSL”. These offers include the new smartphone together with a package of voice, fixed-line and mobile connectivity from as little as €55 a month (VAT excluded).

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is also available to all customers at a price of €249 with no contract from Vodafone outlets and from Vodafone’s online shop.

In addition, Vodafone is offering “Mobile Internet per BlackBerry”, a data plan that allows BlackBerry smartphone users to stay connected with push-based email, keep in touch with friends on Facebook®, use instant messaging services like Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk, access Flickr for photo sharing, and surf the Internet. The “Mobile Internet per BlackBerry” data plan can be activated free of charge for two months by all customers buying a BlackBerry Curve 8520 by December 2009. After the promotional period, the offering will be available for €10 per month for contract customers and €3 per week for pay-as-you-go customers.
