AppliedMicro Joins EEMBC Board of Directors

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif., -- The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) today announced that AppliedMicro, (Nasdaq: AMCC), a global leader in energy conscious computing and communications solutions, is the consortium's newest member.

AppliedMicro( )joins EEMBC as a member of the consortium's board of directors, with full voting rights on all major issues decided by the consortium, plus full access to all of the EEMBC(®) benchmarks.

"AppliedMicro is a leader in IP and Ethernet packet processing and embedded processors, and their experience in these areas will greatly benefit the evolution of EEMBC's benchmark suites, particularly those that are focused on telecommunication applications," said EEMBC President Markus Levy. "We welcome AppliedMicro as the consortium's 28th board member and we look forward to having their participation in our active working groups."

"As AppliedMicro continues to innovate and provide low power, high performance SoC solutions, we look forward to sharing our expertise with other EEMBC board members to clearly reflect the practical performance of embedded processors in datacenter, telecom, enterprise and consumer applications," said David Tsai, Director of Marketing Applications at AppliedMicro. "Placing increasing numbers of processor cores onto one chip is not always the best way to enhance system-level performance. Designers need a way to evaluate the SoC architecture around the cores and how they benefit application specific tasks such as IP and Ethernet network traffic or storage. Through our participation with the consortium, AppliedMicro hopes to make these distinctions more apparent."
