China market: Clevo invests in retail outlet in Chongqing
China-based retail channel operator Buynow, which was set up by second-tier Taiwan notebook maker Clevo, will open its nineteenth store in China in March 2010. The store will be located in Chongqing and follows the company's recent opening of its store in Qingdao.
Clevo's business strategy with Buynow is to open up a large retail space where vendors of IT products can rent space to sell their products.
The new store will have five floors and a total area of 20,000 square meters. The first floor will house top IT brands while the second floor will feature communications products. The company will also have two floors supporting DIY customers and one floor for after-sales support.
Clevo said it will have the facilities built at a cost of 200 million yuan (US$29.3 million).
Buynow is currently the most profitable business for Clevo and helped the company achieve profits of NT$230 million for the first half of 2009, the company noted. Some market watchers estimate Clevo's profit will reach NT$700 million for 2009.
