CHT to procure 1.8 million handsets in 2009, 2-2.1 million in 2010
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has estimated that its total purchases of handsets in 2009 will reach 1.8 million units, of which 270,000 units, or 15%, will be smartphones, according to the company.
For 2010, the purchase volume is expected to reach 2-2.1 million units, with the proportion of smartphones getting higher due to the launch of entry-level and mid-range models by handset vendors, the company noted.
CHT also aims at 370,000 subscribers of mobile Internet services at the end of 2009, an increase of 210,000 from the end of 2008, and expects the number to rise by at least 200,000 in 2010.
CHT also expects its sales of iPhone 3GS to reach 60,000 units by the end of 2009 since the company started marketing the smartphone in late August this year.
