Motorola First to Deliver Enterprise Passive Optical LAN Workgroup Terminal with Power over Ethernet
Innovation to the Motorola Workgroup Terminal makes deploying Passive Optical LAN solutions simple and faster – expanding cost savings benefits to the enterprise.
HORSHAM, Pa –Motorola Inc. (NYSE:MOT) announced the availability of the enterprise market’s first Passive Optical LAN Workgroup Terminal with 802.3af compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE). The newest innovation to the Motorola Passive Optical LAN (POL) solution portfolio, the WT21004 includes PoE ports to directly power local area network (LAN) stationary Ethernet devices such as Voice over IP phones and wireless access points. The addition of the WT21004 with PoE to its portfolio demonstrates how Motorola continues to build out its POL solution to deliver operational efficiencies at every point along the enterprise network.

The Motorola WT21004 is designed to deliver a full range of advanced voice, data and IP video services over a converged all-optical LAN. It is easily deployed in support of enterprise users and applications and provides line-rate gigabit services at distances of up to 20 kilometers from the core switch/router, which greatly reduces the cost, complexity and operational requirements associated with traditional multi-tiered and legacy data networking technologies.
Unveiled in May, Motorola’s POL solution is a network architecture that extends traditional enterprise LAN functionality via an all-fiber passive optical network directly from the data center to all stationary Ethernet end points in the enterprise, thus eliminating costly interim distribution and local switching. The solution offers savings in capital expenditures of up to 60 percent and ongoing operational expenditures of up to 75 percent over traditional LAN approaches. POL achieves these savings by simplifying the network with a reduction in active components, and creating an architecture that is easy to deploy, manage and maintain.
