Taiwan market: CHT last-mile circuit lease fee lowered

Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC) on October 14 reduced the monthly rate charged by Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) for its last-mile circuits leased to other operators from NT$140 (US$4.3) per line currently to NT$126.

However, other fixed-line communication service operators had expected a deeper cut to levels under NT$70, according to industry sources. Some fixed-line telecom carriers have made moves to acquire cable TV networks for last mile connection instead of using CHT's circuits, the sources said.
