FIH lands Android handset orders from Orange, say sources
Foxconn International Holdings (FIH) reportedly has landed orders for Android-powered handsets directly from telecom carrier Orange, according to industry sources.
FIH will build the Android phones with 3G chipset solutions from Qualcomm, and begin to ship the handsets to Orange in the second quarter of 2010, the sources noted.
In addition to current clients including branded PC vendors such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Acer and Lenovo, FIH is also seeking ODM orders from other mobile carriers in major markets, the sources indicated.
However, it remains to be seen if FIH's approach to deal directly with telecom carriers will backfire, as some branded PC vendors are also tapping the telecom sector, the sources commented.
